The power of women to be celebrated

Gather the special women in your life and book your tickets.

Women take centre stage at an inspired high tea and motivational talk at Carnival City in celebration of Women’s Day this year. The dynamic speaker and founder of the Jes Foord Foundation (JFF), Jes Foord, will talk about the power of women while guests indulge in a spread of sumptuous treats.

The 21-year-old survived being raped by four men and despite the horror of this ordeal, rose above it by creating something good from the bad which transpired in her life.

Foord shares her experience and in a moving, but very inspirational talk, speaks of the JFF which has established counselling rooms for women in Hammersdale, Mpumalanga; Kloof and Marrian Hill, KwaZulu-Natal; and at St Augustine’s Hospital, Berea, KwaZulu-Natal.

The purpose of the foundation is to empower rape survivors through education.

Foord is not the only inspiring woman to be joined at Carnival City’s Women’s Day event.

“5FM’s tenacious Nicole da Silva will be joining Jes and we are thrilled to have these two impressive young women in our presence this Women’s Day,” said Michelle Smith, marketing manager of Carnival City.

Da Silva, who will MC the event, started on national radio at just 21.

Currently presenting her own weekend afternoon slot on 5FM, she adds her quick wit, sassy personality and warmth to her shows.

Carnival City’s culinary team is set to serve decadent slices of cake, dainty tartlets, fresh muffins, scones with homemade preserves, savoury treats, and tantalising desserts.

Prizes from lucky draws are also up for grabs.

The event, which takes place on August 9 at Carnival City’s Rio Ballroom, starts at 10am.
