Runners battle through sewage

"I am sure this matter does not only concern me, but every person who takes part in the Parkrun every Saturday."

Gerda Lombard writes by email:

There is sewage running into the main road at Jan Smuts Park, which is one of the roads we use for our Parkrun events every Saturday.

This has been leaking for years and is truly disgusting to see and walk/run through.

It is also a health hazard.

I am sure this matter does not only concern me, but every person who takes part in the Parkrun every Saturday.

Editor’s note: The Herald requested comment from the Ekurhuleni Metro and the following response was received from spokesperson Themba Gadebe:

“The blockage was caused by fat and papers in the line,” he said.

“It was attended to and fixed.”
