Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (November 14 to 15):

Cases reported:

• Hijacking: 2
• Attempted murder: 1
• Fraud: 2
• Malicious damage to property: 1
• Theft of motor vehicle: 1
• Reckless driving: 1
• Residential burglary: 1
• Theft: 3
• Pointing of firearm: 1
• Common assault: 2
• Shoplifting: 1
• Possession of drugs: 2
• Traffic offences: 1

Arrests:

• Shoplifting: 1
• Possession of drugs: 2
• Assault: 1

Attempted murder:

• On Tuesday, a truck driver was shot at along Koot Street in Witpoortjie.

The victim, who was sleeping in the truck, was awakened around midnight by a noise emanating from the rear of the vehicle.

A man approached the driver’s side door and fired one shot at the victim, which missed its target.

The gunman demanded money and cellphones, and fled with the victim’s wallet.

One tyre was stolen from the truck.

Hijacking:

• Three men posing as metro police officers hijacked the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta at the corner of Station Road and Grey Avenue on Monday morning.

The hijackers were travelling in a white BMW and pulled the victim over at around 6am.

Heidelberg SAPS members found the victim near the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve and his vehicle was recovered.

• The driver of a white Toyota Corolla was robbed of his vehicle along Station Road around 8pm on Sunday.

The victim was returning to his parked vehicle after buying cigarettes when he was attacked by two men.

One of the men pepper sprayed the victim and forced him into the backseat.

The victim was driven to a secluded area where he was told to get out of the car.

He was also robbed of his cellphone and other valuables.

Theft of motor vehicle:

• A silver Toyota Etios was stolen from the Sherwood Shopping Centre yesterday (Wednesday).

Burglary:

• New Kleinfontein Road, Leachville.

The break-in took place on Tuesday.

Stolen: A TV and cables.
