Four arrested for speeding

Charged with reckless and negligent driving.

Four speedsters were arrested during a special operation conducted by the EMPD High Speed Unit in Brakpan on Monday.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, one of the drivers was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

The operation was conducted along the R23 (Heidelberg Road) between Ouhout Street and Rangeview Road, which has a speed limit of 80km/h.

The arrested four were caught between 5.02am and 5.26am.

“One of the arrested four,who was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen sedan doing 120km/h, was found to be under the influence of alcohol,” said Kgasago.

“The 41-year-old suspect was charged with reckless and negligent driving, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The rest were clocked at 140km/h, 133km/h and 124km/h, and detained at the Brakpan Police Station.”

They were later released on a warning.
