Cops call ‘robbery victim’s’ bluff

"She allegedly took the company money to gamble on Sunday and Monday, and then opened a case to cover it up."

A 38-year-old Brenthurst woman who allegedly used her employer’s cash to fund her gambling habit and then claimed to have been robbed of the money, appeared in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court last week on a charge of defeating the course of justice.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the woman opened an armed robbery case on Monday, last week.

She claimed she was robbed of R9 500 company money while travelling along Heidelberg Road (R23).

The woman told police two men climbed into her vehicle and held her at gunpoint.

She reported that after driving to a “dark area” on the R23, the men grabbed the money and ran into a field.

“Following further investigations, it came to light that the complainant had opened a false case,” said Col Peet van der Schyff from the Brakpan SAPS.
