‘Tis the season for giving
“If every resident of the town places just one item in the basket, we will be able to make a big difference.”

Christmas is around the corner and for many people it’s a time to kick back and relax, spend time with loved ones and have a good time.
Sadly, for many others the holidays can mean hunger.
Most of the local organisations that work diligently during the year to look after the homeless and destitute will be taking a well-deserved break over the festive season.
While every effort is made to collect sufficient food in advance in order to distribute food parcels, there is still a great demand.
With this in mind, the Herald and VC Superspar in Dalview wanted to help provide food for those in need this Christmas.

This, however, cannot be done without the kindness of the Brakpan community.
Management at VC Superspar has placed a basket at the store entrance where members of the public can place non-perishable food items.
VC Superspar has also donated the first items, valued at R1 000.
“If every resident of the town places just one item in the basket, we will be able to make a big difference,” said Thelma Koorts, editor of the Herald.
She gave her assurance that the food collected will be donated to local organisations really trying to make a difference.
Donations can also be delivered to the Herald’s office at 61 Van der Walt Road in Dalview.
Any items of non-perishable goods, tinned foods, pasta, instant soups, instant sauces, sugar, tea, coffee, mealie meal, long-life milk, biscuits, sweets and packets of jelly will be welcomed.
