Familiar face returns to Brakpan SPCA

Tamaryn Lombard grabbed the opportunity to return to the Brakpan SPCA with both hands.
The 30-year-old Brakpan resident was recently appointed as the local society’s new manager.
Tamaryn first started working at the Brakpan SPCA in February 2012 as a receptionist, but was soon promoted to kennel manager and started training as an inspector.
She obtained her inspector qualification in 2013 and worked at the society until 2016.
Having left the SPCA to work in the corporate sector, Tamaryn continued to serve the society as a member of its committee and later as chairperson.
She remained on the management committee for about a year.
Asked why she returned to the SPCA, Tamaryn explained she always wanted to work with animals.
“I chose all the required subjects in high school so that I could study to become a veterinarian,” she said.

“Unfortunately, circumstances kept me from studying further; however, I got the chance to work in welfare.
“Working at the SPCA has brought me much happiness over the years, but also a lot of sadness.
“We work under some of the toughest conditions and go through some of the most terrible events and it’s all for the animals.
“I have been screamed and sworn at, my life has been threatened and a colleague and I were even held at gunpoint in Tsakane where they took our belongings and the SPCA vehicle we were travelling in.
“We are put in harm’s way daily, but we wouldn?t think twice about it as it’s for the animals.
“Tamaryn is ready to take on her new role with vigour.
“With the experience I have gained from the SPCA, along with my time away and with a great committee by my side, not only can I guide my staff correctly, but I can ensure that we are always ready for the possibilities coming ahead, the good and the bad, and that every animal with which we cross paths gets the best treatment they deserve,” she said.
“The SPCA becomes a way of life for those who work here or take up roles on our committee; they give up much of their personal lives to always try their best for the animals.”
Tamaryn urged residents to always respect the staff of the SPCA and to support the society by adopting an animal or by buying pet goodies from the SPCA.
Tamaryn can be contacted on 011 742 2007 or via email at manager@brakpanspca.co.za for any compliments, complaints or suggestions.
