Weekend crime round-up

Crime is increasing in Brakpan since lockdown level two.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A tow truck driver was hijacked while attending to a call-out in Sallies Village. The driver, travelling in a white Isuzu truck, received a call to tow a vehicle and arrived at the given address along Olifant Street around 4pm.

When he arrived, he phoned the client who told him to park and wait for him. Upon the client’s arrival, the driver asked him about the vehicle that needed to be towed and the man directed him to a new location and told him they first needed to pick someone up.

The driver and the man then drove around the corner and picked up another man. This man threatened the driver with a gun and he was taken to an open veld where his hands were tied with cables and he was robbed of his cellphone and bank card.

The client drove off in the truck and the gunman kept a watch over the driver for a short while before fleeing on foot.
