Four nabbed in a blue light robbery hot spot
Brakpan SAPS station commander Brig Fredl Jonck congratulated the task team members for their sterling work in effecting the arrest of the suspected robbers.
Brakpan police arrested four men, suspected of being part of a blue light robbery gang, along Heidelberg Road (R23) on Monday afternoon.
The men, who were travelling in a white Ford Ranger bakkie, aroused the suspicion of patrolling officers who spotted them around midday along the R23.
This stretch of the road has for years been plagued by blue light hijackings and robberies.
According to Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for Brakpan police, members from the Brakpan Task Team first saw a white Mercedes-Benz parked on the side of the road, in the direction of Geluksdal.

“When members made a U-turn, they noticed another Mercedes-Benz and a white Ford Ranger bakkie with all occupants outside of the vehicles,” she said.
“SAPS approached them and the occupants of the Mercedes drove off and the four males also drove off in the Ford Ranger. Both vehicles were chased by police and the Mercedes sped off towards Benoni.”
Officers were able to bring the bakkie to a halt and the four occupants were searched.
“They were found in possession of two firearms, a Remington 9mm and Taurus,” said van Staad.
Police also found blue lights on the dashboard and a fitted police siren.
The men were arrested and detained at the Brakpan Police Station.
“During the arrest, the men submitted a fraudulent permit to use blue lights,” added van Staad.
