Police create awareness of domestic violence through campaign

The campaign follows an increase in assault cases in the informal settlement.

Brakpan police held a domestic violence awareness campaign in Plastic City informal settlement last Wednesday.

The campaign was conducted by members of the Brakpan SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit and involved other stakeholders, including the Gauteng Department of Community Safety.

It was reported in the Herald’s March 12 edition, ‘Rise in cases of assault’, how the police intended to visit the area following a spike in violent incidents.

Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, told the Herald at the time that all crimes are liquor-related.

With alcohol playing a large role in violence and criminal activities, police are also planning liquor-related operations in the area.
