Easter weekend marred by violence

On Saturday evening two women were assaulted by their partners in separate incidents.

The Easter weekend, normally marked by fun family get-togethers, church services and consuming large quantities of chocolate, was a violent one for some and saw five cases of assault reported to local police over two days in Brakpan.

Three people required medical attention.

The first incident took place in the Location Road informal settlement at 3am on Friday following an argument at a shebeen. A man was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital after he was hit in the face with a beer bottle.

On Friday at 8.45pm, a dispute between two men over the sale of a motorcycle ended in violence.

The incident took place at the corner of Hastings Avenue and Kerry Street. One man was struck in the genitals with a golf club. He was also robbed of R5 200.

During the early morning hours of Saturday, a fight erupted among a group of friends who had been visiting and drinking at a residence along Bayley Street in Dalpark.

A missing cellphone was reportedly the cause of vexation among the companions. One man was kicked and repeatedly struck in the face and on the head with a piece of granite. The victim awoke in a hospital with his tekkies, T-shirt and wristwatch missing.
