Rugby action at last
Brakpan’s first team and u-20 sides will be facing Centurion in a pre-season match on Saturday.
The 2021 club rugby season looks set to kick-off on May 22, and Brakpan Rugby Club is hard at work preparing.
After not having played a match since March last year, chances are the players will need plenty of work to become match fit.

“We are happy to just get going,” said club chairperson Harry Nieuwenhuis.
“We had a month of non-contact training, which was not easy with the Covid-19 restrictions. Now we have been enjoying contact training. The fitness of the players is not quite where it should be, given how much time they were not on the field. The coaches have their hands full.”
Given that only the Valke Peregrine League will be played this season, 2021 will be a short one for the players.
Nieuwenhuis feels it will be good preparation for 2022, which will see the club having its centenary year celebrations.
“After the season, we will start with pre-season right away,” said the chairperson.

The Valke Peregrine League will see each club play five home and five away matches.
This means the season will only last two months.
This is a big difference to previous years, where the season would start around February and carry on into November.
