Public urged to support charity drive in aid of iThemba

"We would like to extend an invitation to the public to join us and Pick n Pay in assisting the centre with everything they need."

Legends Connect is hosting a charity drive in support of iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centres. The internet service provider has partnered with Pick n Pay Mall@Carnival for the sanitary pad drive.

Members of the public can help by purchasing sanitary pads and other feminine hygiene products and placing them in the donation bins located in the store.

“With the rape statistics rising higher than before even amid a pandemic, and GBV being the second pandemic some of the women in our communities are facing, we thought the little we can do is put a smile back on their faces,” said Mbuso Khumalo from Legends Connect.

“It saddens us that with everything going on, we still have people who live in abusive households and are targeted just for being female.

Spreading fake news causes panic

“We as Legends Connect decided to do the little that we can by raising awareness of such issues.”

According to Khumalo, the drive aims to fill up the donation bins with sanitary pads or other feminine essentials.

“With the country being what is over the past few weeks these women will need our help more than ever. We choose to support the centre because we believe in the good work they are doing for the community.

“They haven’t turned a blind eye on those who are in need even in these bad times. We would like to extend an invitation to the public to join us and Pick n Pay in assisting the centre.”

The donated goods will be handed over to iThemba, which is located in Benoni, on Women’s Day (August 9).
