Weekend crime round-up

Cables valued at R300 000 were stolen during a robbery at a business.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A car parked at an address along Germains Avenue was broken into. The front passenger window was broken and a wallet containing cards was stolen.

• Saturday – Cables valued at R300 000 were stolen during a robbery at a business along Lemmer Road in Vulcania.

Three robbers gained access to the premises around 23:00. A security guard on duty was robbed of his personal cellphone and tied up.

Two of the robbers were armed – one was brandishing a knife while the other had a gun. The robbers loaded the stolen cables in a white Hyundai truck which arrived after one of the robbers made a phone call.

The guard was later rescued by a colleague who found him bound in the guardroom during a patrol of the premises.

* A business in Van der Walt Street, Dalview, was burgled of a laptop and R1 000 cash.
* A man was arrested for burglary after he was found in possession of items stolen from a home along Hendrik Potgieter Street in Dalview.
The homeowner was alerted to the break-in at 20:00 by a neighbour and the man was swiftly apprehended.

• Sunday – The driver of a truck transporting LP gas was hijacked by men wearing police uniforms at 04:45 along the N17 highway, near the Dalpark Toll Plaza.

As the driver was nearing the plaza, the occupants of a white bakkie with blue lights indicated to him to pull over.

He stopped on the side of the highway and the bakkie parked in front of the truck – a white Volvo with an orange trailer.

Two men wearing police uniforms, one of whom was armed with a gun, alighted the bakkie and approached the driver.

He was instructed to get out of the truck and was then forced inside the bakkie. The driver was told to lie down and his face was covered with a cloth.

He was robbed of his cellphone and wallet, containing cash and his driver’s licence, and was dropped off along the R21 highway.
