Weekend crime round-up

A man was stabbed in the hand during a robbery at his Wenden Avenue home.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

• Friday – A security guard on duty at a business along Graaf Road in Rand Collieries was assaulted and robbed of his personal belongings by three gunmen.
He spotted the trio while patrolling the premises at around 02:00 and raised the alarm by pressing the panic button and alerting his colleagues.
Annoyed with the guard’s actions, the robbers assaulted him and threatened to shoot him.
Before fleeing, the robbers took the guard’s cellphone, wallet and other valuables.
* A lone thief made off with a cellphone valued at R4 000 after snatching the device from its owner.
The incident took place at a petrol station along Prince George Avenue at around 08:00.
The victim was at the ATM when the thief grabbed the cellphone out of his hand and ran off.
* TVs, a laptop, jewellery and other household items were stolen during a break-in at a home along Ruth Street in Sunair Park.
• Saturday – A section of fence was stolen from a construction site in Athlone Avenue in Dalview by two men.
A security guard on site was confronted by the pair at 00:40.
They entered the guardroom, pointed a gun at the guard and demanded keys.
When the guard told them he didn’t have any keys, they ordered him to hand over his cellphone and wallet.
The robbers then fastened the guard to a chair and left.
They removed about 30m of fence, valued at around R3 000, pulled it into the veld and fled.
* A shop located in the Carnival Décor Centre in Dalpark was the target of a gang of robbers.
Four robbers, two of whom were armed with guns, struck at around 06:00 and held up a security guard.
They fled with R1 000 in cash and goods valued at around R85 000.
* A vehicle parked along Main Reef Road in Anzac was stripped of its wheels and battery.
* Cellphones, memory cards and other items were stolen during a burglary at a business along Station Road.
• Sunday – A battery was stolen from a vehicle parked along Hastings Avenue.
* A man was stabbed in the hand during a robbery at his Wenden Avenue home.
The victim arrived home at 05:30, parked his car and was about to close the front gate when he was confronted by two men.
One of the perpetrators is known to the victim.
He was robbed of his wallet, which contained cash, and was stabbed by one of the robbers before they fled on foot.
The victim received treatment at the Far East Rand Hospital.
