Police shine a light on health issues

A candlelight memorial was also held in memory of those who have succumbed to Covid-19 and those still fighting the virus.

An informative event highlighting mental health and cancer awareness was held at the Brakpan Police Station on Friday.

SAPS Employees Health and Wellness, and Communication structures hosted the event.

Stakeholders present on the day included representatives from the Life Dalview Hospital, Netcare Lakeview Hospital and Lavita Products.

“A psychologist spoke about the stigma of mental health, and we learnt about types of cancers and the different types of stress and how often we don’t deal with it,” said Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Capt Pearl van Staad.

“In absentia, we saluted one of our members who is a cancer survivor.”

A candlelight memorial was also held in memory of those who have succumbed to Covid-19 and those still fighting the virus.

The keynote address was delivered by station commander Brig Fredl Jonck, who reminded members to take care of each other, to nurture their minds with positivity and to seek help.

He thanked those who initiated the event and made it a success.
