Weekend crime round-up

A Kenleaf woman found a half-naked intruder in her bedroom during the early hours of the morning.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Two men hijacked the driver of a delivery vehicle along Heidelberg Road (R23) near Dalpark at around 09:30. The victim, who was en route to Heidelberg to make a delivery, was stationary at the traffic lights when a man appeared at the driver’s side window and pointed a gun at him.

A second man then opened the passenger door and got into the vehicle. The victim was instructed to lie down and the gunman then climbed into the vehicle and handed over the firearm to his accomplice. They drove off and the victim’s face was covered with a hat and his legs were tied together.

He was driven along a gravel road and then let go. In addition to the vehicle and its cargo, neither of which were identified in the police report, the duo also took a cellphone belonging to the victim’s employer valued at R20 000. The vehicle was fitted with a tracking device. A case of hijacking is under investigation.

* After hearing a loud noise and strange voices in the home, a domestic worker employed at a residence in Rangeview Road, Dalpark Extension Six, hid in a bedroom to avoid detection by house robbers. Two or more robbers gained entry to the house at about 13:15.

While searching the house, however, one of the robbers found the victim hiding in the room and demanded to know the location of the safe in the house. The victim told the intruder she did not know. The robbers later fled with two TVs, a DJ console, a gaming console, a tablet, two laptops and remote control cars.

The value of the stolen items is R97 000. The victim saw the robbers leave in a grey vehicle and then contacted her employer. A house robbery docket has been opened.

* A store room on a property along Olga Mitchell Street in Anzac was broken into. The thieves made off with R295 000 worth of goods including gardening equipment, tools, an outdoor lounge set, two bicycles, a wheelbarrow, a gas bottle, golf clubs, golf shoes and a golf push cart.

* The driver of a blue Hyundai Atos was hijacked in Brakpan North at approximately 23:25. Heading down Waldeck Street after dropping off two people at an address along Swanson Street, the victim was stationary at a stop sign when a hijacker opened the driver’s side door and pulled him out of the car. The hijacker assaulted the victim and then got into the car and drove off. The vehicle was later recovered along Kingsway Avenue.

• Saturday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.

• Sunday – A Kenleaf woman found a half-naked intruder in her bedroom during the early hours of the morning. The victim, who lives at an address along Bentley Place, was awakened at 01:45 by her cat making a noise. She grabbed her cellphone and put on the device’s torch to see in the dark when she saw a barefoot man dressed only in boxer shorts next to her on the bed. The man then got up, grabbed the woman’s cellphone, as well as another cellphone in the bedroom, and fled the home.

* A vehicle parked along Prince George Avenue was broken into and a set of keys were stolen.

* A case of common robbery is under investigation after a bag was snatched from its owner in the parking lot of Mall@Carnival at around 11:50. The victim was heading into the mall when a man believed to be in his 20s grabbed the bag and ran away. The bag contained two cellphones and bank cards.
