Brakpan lose their first match of the Valke Peregrine League

The side from Bosman Stadium played aggressive rugby at times and had their opponents under pressure.

Saturday’s weather was not great for CCC Brakpan Rugby Club’s running game. The heavy downpour and some errors at crucial points saw Brakpan lose their first match of the Valke Peregrine League 26-13 to North-West University (NWU), away from home.

The match was close in the first half, with a Phillip Barwise try keeping the visitors in the match. NWU led 14-10 at half-time.

Brakpan only scored three more points against their hosts’ 12 in the second half, but that statistic can be misleading.

Unfortunately, the combination of errors and tough conditions made it difficult to get their backline’s running game going.

Barwise scored Brakpan’s only try of the match, while the other points came from the boot of Anrich Richter.

They will hope to minimise the mistakes when they face East Rand United at Bosman Stadium this Saturday.

Kick-off will be at 17:00 and the club hopes their supporters turn out in large numbers for their first home match of the season.
