Hijackers make off with motorist’s new car

Man robbed of vehicle he bought two days earlier.

Hijackers posing as law enforcement officials hijacked the driver of a white Volkswagen Golf 7 in Dalpark last Friday morning.

The victim had bought the vehicle, which is valued at R419 000, only two days before the incident.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the victim was travelling along Airport Drive at 10:15 when he noticed a grey Toyota Corolla behind him with flashing blue lights.

The driver of the Toyota indicated to the victim to pull over. The victim stopped on the roadside near Louw Street but did not get out of his vehicle.

He was soon approached by the driver of the Corolla, who questioned him about the car and claimed it was stolen.

Two more men, one of whom was armed with a gun, then pushed the victim to the backseat. He was tied up with shoelaces and driven to Johannesburg, where he was released on the Soweto Highway.

In addition to the vehicle, the hijackers also made off with personal belongings in the car, which included certified forms, the victim’s ID and wallet, which contained R250 in cash, as well as two pairs of tekkies.

While the vehicle is fitted with a tracker, it had a temporary vehicle permit and no registration number. A case of hijacking is under investigation.
