Residents have their say on municipal matters

IDP@2022 public participation process presented in Brakpan.

The City of Ekurhuleni recently presented the draft budget plans to the Brakpan community for their input to ensure in-depth public participation.

The #IDP2022 public participation meeting at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre was attended by community members who received feedback on projects in their wards and were also able to make input on the draft budget and plans.

The process was led by MMC for Environment and Waste Management André du Plessis who is also the allocated MMC for the Brakpan cluster.

The draft budget and integrated development plan (IDP) for Wards 31, 97 and 105 were shared with the community in the form of a detailed presentation.

The public meeting offered the community the opportunity to gain insight into and have their say on the draft budget and IDP.

Some comments included recycling projects, the landfill site, sports facilities, as well as sewer issues and street light maintenance.

One of the issues that drew attention was the allocation of funds for consultants to look into the rehabilitation of Main Reef Road and the possibility thereof.

There has also been a provision made and a commitment from the MMC towards the rehabilitation of Brakpan Dam.

Residents can still have their say and comment on the City’s draft budget and IDP.

The closing date for comments is April 29 and the draft documents can be viewed at local public libraries, customer care centres or the City’s website at www.ekurhuleni.gov.za
