International Albinism Awareness Day celebrated

Ster-Kinekor's CSI flagship programme, Vision Mission, commemorated the day in collaboration with the Kasie Albinism Foundation.

International Albinism Awareness Day is observed every year on June 13 to honour the human rights of people with albinism all over the world.

Albinism is a genetically inherited birth defect that is rare.

Due to the nature of albinism’s genetic make and because melanin also plays a role in the development of the optic nerves, people with albinism most often have vision problems.

Recognising that 75% of the world’s vision impairment is preventable, the global focus is on encouraging people to get their eyes screened.

Ster-Kinekor’s Vision Mission initiative aims to provide preventative care and treatment to people who would not otherwise have access to this critical service.

In April, Ster Kinekor’s CSI flagship programme Vision Mission and the Kasie Albinism Foundation invited people living with albinism to join them for a free screening.
