This intersection is now a three-way stop

The change is due to safety reasons.

Brakpan motorists have expressed concern about the ‘stop’ road markings painted along Gardiner Avenue at the intersection with Park Street.

One of the markings is not clearly visible due to the speedhump on the road and there are fears this may cause an accident.

City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini stated the intersection has always operated as a priority stop-controlled intersection with free-flow of traffic on Gardiner Avenue.

Due to speeding on the road, the city constructed a speedhump on the eastern side of Gardiner Avenue some time ago, just before its intersection with Park Street.

“To create a safer intersection, it was decided to change the intersection to an all-way stop-controlled intersection,” he said.

Dlamini added that two additional stop signs with road markings have already been installed at the intersection.
The Brakpan Herald observed the painted markings on the road but no stop signs.
