Recruitment drive targets young people
Youngsters from informal settlements are encouraged to join the local SAPS youth desk.
Brakpan police and the local SAPS Youth Crime Prevention Desk held a recruitment drive on Saturday at the Magaleni informal settlement in Brakpan North.
The settlement is situated along Hospital Road.
Mpho Sindane from the youth desk explained they are gearing towards a transformation of the youth in the area, which will transpire through unity and by eradicating drug and alcohol use in young people.

This will also aid in decreasing youth-related crimes.
“The Magaleni informal settlement responded positively to our visit. The youth desk constituents interacted with the youth in groups and some on a one-on-one basis,” said Brakpan SAPS communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi.
Buthelezi, who is also the Sector 1 manager, interacted with adults in the community and encouraged them to create a CPF, which will also serve as an encouragement to the youth.

The community members raised concerns with regard to not being served to their satisfaction by the SAPS, emergency medical services and councillors.
Buthelezi gave her assurance that this would change but also made it clear how the changes they want should start with them.
The recruitment drive progressed to the Sherwood Shopping Centre and the youth desk members continued to interact with other young people and distributed pamphlets.
