Smoke causes problems on golf course

The issue has caused the club to lose members.

Royal Oak Country Club’s golfers have had a few issues lately.

Players from the course have found it difficult to play at the venue with smoke coming from objects being burned in the area.

Many people have said that plastic and copper are being set alight.

“We have approached the municipality and the health department but they said that there is nothing that they can do about it,” said Royal Oak’s club manager Kenneth Dube.

“This smoke affects so many people in Brakpan so I don’t understand. It is a health hazard. It can’t be good for babies and people with heart issues.”

Dube has also said that many of the golfers have found it difficult to cope with.

“People don’t want to play here anymore because of this. We have lost club members. The smoke causes a big problem to the golfers and the greens on our course are also taking a lot of strain,” he said.

The manager pointed out that many have found it difficult to breathe.

“We are paying the rates and taxes, but they (the municipality) are not trying to help,” said a frustrated Dube.

The City of Ekurhuleni had not responded to the Herald’s request for comment at the time of going to press.
