Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan SAPS from May 5 to 7.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A home in Northdene Avenue was broken into and cigarettes, hair clippers and other household items were stolen.

• A TV and a laptop were stolen from a home along Olga Mitchell Street in Anzac.

• Two men and two women robbed the occupants of a home in Blyde Street, Leachville, at around 18:45.

The robbers, one of whom was wearing a reflective jacket, were travelling in a silver Toyota Corolla and a Ford Ranger double cab bakkie. They threatened a man in the house at gunpoint when he answered a knock at the door.

The man’s brother, who was bathing at the time, was instructed to get dressed. The robber in the reflective jacket then handcuffed him and took him to the bedroom.

The robbers searched the house and took iPhones. They also demanded to know the daily withdrawal limits for the victims’ bank accounts.

The brother told police he was then taken to a bank where he was forced to withdraw a large sum of cash. He handed the money to one of the women travelling in the Corolla. A case of armed robbery is under investigation.

Saturday – Tools, including two welding machines, were stolen from an address along Milner Avenue.

Sunday – A laptop was stolen from a car parked at Mall@Carnival.
