There's something for everyone at Carnival City.

Enjoy some epic entertainment this June at Carnival City, with the exciting Cavalleria Rusticana Opera production on June 3, The Heavyweights concert on June 17, and the hilarious Sex After Marriage comedy show on June 24.

• Cavalleria Rusticana Opera
Opera lovers will get an opportunity to experience a world-class performance of opera singers and chorus with the first full concert version of Cavalleria Rusticana Opera at Carnival City’s Mardi Gras.

This high-profile event will be a huge contribution to the arts industry and will boost opera and classical music which has been diminishing due to a lack of funding and opportunities for artists, as a result, most of our world-renowned opera stars have migrated to other countries, making this initiative essential.

This production has an exciting line-up of some of the best opera singers in the country, who will be performing one of the most famous operas in the world, Cavalleria Rusticana which has been performed in all the major opera houses in the world.

The aim is to make Ekurhuleni a major player in opera and classical performances in the country.

Directed by Bongani Vilakazi, the line-up includes Loveline Madumo (Santuzza), Linnette Van Der Merve (Lola), Lethokuhle Skosana (Turiddu), Sbani Mwelase (Alfio), Tracey Booyens (Mamma Lucia) and Ijadu Chorus accompanied by Susan Steenkamp.

The show starts at 19:00.

• The Heavyweights concert
Are you ready for the long-awaited return of The Heavyweights concert? Come have some Afro-fun and enjoy some entertainment from sensational performers.
Themed ‘A celebration on youth’, this much anticipated mixture of dance, hip hop, house and amapiano will keep attendees on their toes.

Following the success of the previous two shows, this 2023 concert is aimed to be bigger and better due to popular demand, and will feature performances by heavyweights such as the internationally acclaimed rapper Casper Nyovest, Afro-rap musician and actor Sjava, Bopha and Adiwele hit-maker Young Stunna, media personality and TikTok sensation Khanyisa, and singer, dancer and phenomenal DJ, Lady Du.
The show starts at 16:00 in the Big Top Arena.

• Sex After Marriage comedy show
Over the years, Mashabela has become renowned for his straight-forward, uncompromising, comical way of touching on some real-life issues.

He is known to delve deep and put an amusing spin on the aspects of relationships and upon his return next month, he will be unpacking the ups and downs that couples go through in a marriage, while adding some humour.

Laugh as Mashabela dissects the “mathata a lenyalo” (the bedroom quarrels that all couples go through in marriage). This includes the stereotypes and misperceptions couples have following the wedding.

Let Mashabela hold your hand and walk you through a full one-hour trip about the things that nobody is told, and only finds out during the honeymoon. The show starts at 20:00 in the Big Top Arena. No under 18’s permitted.
