OPINION: Waiting in vain for road to be fixed

Residents have been waiting for months for the issue to be resolved.

Liesl Pretorius from Ysterhout Street in Dalpark writes:

With reference to ‘Residents play road repair waiting game’, Brakpan Herald, July 14, the woes just continue and are now getting even worse.

I have battled since the end of May with this problem for Ekurhuleni to come and fix the road after the water leak was repaired, and no one seems to help.

I have lodged multiple complaints on the Ekurhuleni App and every time the reference numbers are closed without anyone coming to fix the road.

On September 6, I noticed that the water pipe in the road was leaking again. I lodged a complaint on the Ekurhuleni App, no one attended to the problem, and with further investigation on the app later the week, I saw that the reference number was closed without anyone attending to this water leak in the road.

By September 9, the water was flooding the water meter on the sidewalk and water was running down the driveway into the property, and because of that the property was without water that whole weekend.

I lodged various complaints on September 8 on the app, by email and by phone, and Ekurhuleni only came to fix the water leak at the water meter late Monday evening, September 11.

They left my driveway’s paving in a mess and said their other department will come to fix the paving, which has still not been done.

However, the water pipe leak in the road is still not attended to, with reference numbers being closed as resolved.
The hole in the road which they dug in May to fix the previous water leak is still open.

The hole is getting bigger and deeper by the day and is becoming a danger to the road users, and making it more difficult for the three adjacent driveway’s residents to enter and leave their properties.

Editor’s note: Comment is awaited from the City of Ekurhuleni.
