UPDATE: Water restored after blockage repairs

Community irate after water and power interruptions.

A blocked water pipeline, and not supply issues from Rand Water, was the cause of the water interruption which affected a large portion of Brakpan last week.

Amid a large-scale blackout, households and residents in some areas also found themselves without water on February 8.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, the blockage was identified as the cause of the interruption following investigations on site at the Sallies Reservoir.

The municipality had initially indicated that low supply from Rand Water was the cause.

Roving water tankers were dispatched to temporarily supply water to the affected areas, which included Brenthurst, Ergo/Mkhankwa, Maryvlei, Sallies Village, Vulcania, Withok and Witpoortjie.

The water was restored by the evening of February 10.
