Blue light hijackers run amok in Dalpark

Hijackers masquerading as metro police officers targeted another driver last week.

Blue light hijackers struck again in Dalpark last week and targeted the driver of a heavy load truck.

It was reported in last week’s Brakpan Herald how the driver of a Hyundai H100 was hijacked on the morning of March 8 along Elsburg Road (R554) in Dalpark by the occupants of a blue BMW with blue lights and a siren.

One of the perpetrators was dressed in full metro police uniform. The latest incident took place last Tuesday at around 10:00 on Van Dyk Road in Dalpark and involved two men dressed in metro police uniforms.

They were travelling in a white Toyota Quantum with blue lights. The driver, who was travelling from Boksburg, was stopped by the ‘officers’ and instructed to get out the truck.

The hijackers tied his hands behind his back and forced him inside the Quantum. His face was also covered.

They drove a short distance and then stopped to instruct the driver to “act normal” should anyone phone him.

Shortly afterwards, the driver received a phone call from his manager who told him they had been notified by the tracking company that the truck’s battery had been disconnected.

The driver, who was being held at gunpoint, was forced to tell his superior that everything was in order.

He was later robbed of his company cellphone and garage card, two personal cellphones and other valuables.

The value of the stolen truck and items is estimated at R310 000.

It is not clear when or where the driver was released but the hijacking was initially reported to Kempton Park SAPS.

A case of kidnapping was also opened.
