Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from May 3 to 5.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A man had over R11 000 stolen from his bank account after his bank card became stuck in an ATM.

The incident took place at a petrol station along Springs Road in Rand Collieries at around 08:00. Two other men were near the ATM, one of whom offered to help the victim.

Shortly afterwards, cash was withdrawn from his account and money was also used to make a purchase.

• A home in Gerrit Maritz Avenue in Dalview was burgled of cellphones, tablets, cameras, passports, jewellery and cash.

Most of the items were recovered after a passerby saw the perpetrator jumping the wall and questioned him.
The burglar dropped the bag containing the loot and ran away.

The passerby stayed at the address and waited for the homeowner to return so that he could hand back the belongings. It was discovered the burglar gained access to the home through an open window.

• Kitchen appliances were stolen during a break-in at a home along Hosking Street in Brenthurst.

• A white Ford Ranger was stolen from Craigholm Street in Dalview.

Saturday – A shooting claimed the life of a man and injured three others.  Read more here: One dead, three injured in Saturday night shooting

Sunday – A white Ford Ranger was stolen from Mall@Carnival.
• A TV, a laptop and a soundbar were stolen during a burglary at a home along Mynhardt Avenue in Minnebron.
