UPDATE: Repair work sparked fire at Ergo

DRDGOLD Limited sheds light on the incident.

According to DRDGOLD Limited, the parent company that owns the Ergo Plant in Withok, the fire at the premises on Monday morning occurred in a tank that was being refurbished for a project.

This was reportedly because the rubber lining inside the tank caught alight during repair works. The tank inspection hatches were open and added to the fire intensity due to the draught that formed.

All employees in the vicinity were immediately evacuated as emergency services responded. The tank fire was contained and did not spread to other sections of the plant.
