Dump garden waste at mini dumps

There are three mini dump sites open to the public in the Brakpan area.

There are over 30 mini dumpsites across the city established to fight the scourge of illegal dumping spots.

Recyclable waste materials such as garden waste can be dumped at the city’s mini dumpsites, to avoid mixing it with domestic waste disposable at landfill sites which may cause the release of the harmful methane gas.

Only domestic waste placed inside the 240l wheelie bins will be collected by the refuse collection vehicles as per the refuse removal calendar.

Residents who still do not have their 240l wheelie bins are encouraged to visit their nearest waste management depots for assistance.

The city’s waste management services department has established mini dumpsites within and around residential areas for ease of accessibility to the facility at no extra cost to the residents.

Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to do composting using their garden waste and reuse the compost as fertilizers for their gardens.

Access to the city’s mini dumpsites is open seven days a week, including public holidays except on Christmas day.

Operational times at the mini dump sites are seasonal, as during the months of April to September the sun sets earlier and it becomes too dark and unsafe for the public and staff due to reduced visibility.

Therefore, the operating hours for the sites have been categorised into winter and summer as follows:
• April to September daily from 07:00 to 18:00
• October to March daily from 07:00 to 19:00

Sites open to the public in Brakpan are:
• Brenthurst site on Heyns Road
• Minnebron site on West Road
• Geluksdal site on Rheumenella Drive
