Help needed to get Brakpan SPCA’s new wheels on the road

Businesses or community members that can assist are urged to get in touch with the society.

The Brakpan SPCA is bouncing back following their brief closure at the end of last month. As recently reported by the Brakpan Herald, the SPCA reopened its doors on February 3 following a temporary closure of the office the previous week due to numerous challenges that placed immense pressure on its operations.

The brief closure allowed the SPCA to tackle some operational challenges, including training a new office administrator and adjusting to staff shortages in the kennels.

“We know the public were extremely concerned about the temporary closure, however, it was temporary,” said Brakpan SPCA manager Tamaryn Lombard.

“The issues we faced were only temporary as well – short staff and vehicle constraints. However, this has also showed us, and hopefully the community, how important the staff, our vehicles and equipment are.”

Lombard told the Herald the society is up and running with two vehicles.

“We have been donated a third vehicle that needs some work done, and we would like to reach out to the community to help us with this blessing,” she continued.

The SPCA requires assistance with the following:
• Panel beaters to help with the body repairs on their Ford Bantam and the donated vehicle, a Nissan 1400.

• The Bantam needs new locks for the doors. The doors currently can’t be locked and it needs to be repaired as soon as possible.

• The Nissan is running but needs a differential.

Anyone who can assist with parts, quotes, donations or any other assistance can email manager@brakpanspca.co.za

In addition, the society’s landlines are operational thanks to STM Communications and the SPCA now has a second contact number that can be used during office hours for all general enquiries through calling and WhatsApp.

The number is 071 695 3458. Lombard thanked the National Council of SPCAs for assisting the local society through its troubles.

“While we had no vehicles they loaned us one for a period so we could get to the animals that needed us most, and they offered support during our closure,” she concluded.
