City of Ekurhuleni and Eskom meet over debt issue
Coe has reiterated that there will be no electricity interruptions.
The CoE and Eskom met on February 20 to resolve the outstanding debt of the municipality.
The meeting, which was convened by the MMC for Finance and acting Executive Mayor Jongizizwe Dlabathi – who led the Ekurhuleni team – follows a recent statement issued by Eskom threatening a possible interruption or disconnection of electricity at bulk points in Ekurhuleni due to an outstanding debt.
The Eskom team was led by the Gauteng general manager Bandile Jack.
According to the city, the parties agreed on cementing ongoing engagement and dispute resolution efforts to avoid public spats but rather address matters amicably as and when they arise.
“As previously mentioned, our ongoing dialogue with Eskom is focused on ensuring that we maintain power supply in the region,” said city spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
“The city remains committed to continuing to service our current account with Eskom, and there will be no disconnections.”
