Grass grows faster than funds for Clean Brakpan
This community-driven initiative needs funds to sustain its efforts to restore Brakpan to its former glory.

Despite many challenges, especially lack of funding, Clean Brakpan continues its efforts to create a cleaner, more sustainable Brakpan for all residents.
Lisa Jordaan, one of the co-founders of Clean Brakpan, explained it is a struggle every day to raise funds to keep the project going.
“We do main roads mostly as that is all our funds allow. We have just done Prince George Avenue, and Boyd and Van der Merwe streets (Brenthurst) the last month or so, but the grass grows as fast as we cut it. We also currently have no one to manage and drive the team around and remove rubbish,” she said.
She told the Brakpan Herald that while the project’s founders all work full-time, they try to manage in between.
“We (the founders) don’t take any funds that are received. All funds go to the team doing the work, and towards expenses such as petrol and repairs to machines,” she said.
Last month also saw the team transforming Hosking Park, which is home to the Garden of Remembrance. Clean Brakpan, which celebrated its first anniversary at the end of December, conducts regular clean-ups in various suburbs, parks and public spaces.

Since their inception, they have tackled over 60 clean-up projects in different areas of Brakpan. Not only does this help keep the environment clean but it also fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility.
Only through business and community sponsorships or donations can the team continue. Clean Brakpan has a regular donation option on their website at www.cleanbrakpan.online
