Brakpan SAPS engages with community through outreach programme
Local police are building strong community relations.

Brakpan SAPS sector managers and CPF members attended an outreach initiative on March 18 aimed at strengthening and maintaining the relationship between law enforcement and community members.
The outreach programme is steered by Village of Hope, a non-profit organisation led by Tumie Ingrid Masolane and her assistant Mumcy Khumalo, and sponsored by Pick n Pay Mall@Carnival.
The programme uses the slogan “Mabadle Abantu” meaning “Let the people eat”.
Food was prepared at one of the churches in the Mgongo informal settlement along Location Road and the team waited for school children to arrive from school.
The SAPS and CPF members then welcomed the school children with bread rolls, soup, cupcakes, fat cakes, and fruit.
Around 60 school children were fed during the outreach programme, and two families in need were identified and provided with food.
Masolane stated they are pleased by the smiles they see when handing out food to people. She added that the organisation’s goal is to make that small difference.
Brakpan SAPS communications officer and Sector 1 manager Constable Audrey Buthelezi explained that an initiative of this calibre should be a motivation to the public as it sows a seed of hope.
Buthelezi further highlighted that SAPS are involved in such programmes not only as peacemakers, but also to strengthen relations with communities and to regain their trust and respect.
