Bogus traffic cops ambush truck driver and crew
The driver was pulled over on the R23 by criminals masquerading as metro police officers.
Brakpan police are investigating cases of hijacking and kidnapping after the driver and crew of a truck were targeted by bogus law enforcers last Thursday.
According to SAPS, the driver and his colleagues were travelling to Benoni along the R23 near Dalpark when the hijackers struck at around 12:30.
The driver of a white Volkswagen Polo sped past the truck and then stopped in the distance.
Two men dressed in metro police uniforms, complete with caps and reflective jackets, alighted the Polo and instructed the truck driver to pull over.
The driver stopped and all the truck’s occupants were ordered out of the vehicle. One of the ‘officers’ then threatened the victims with a gun and cocked the weapon.
They were told to get inside the Polo. The victims were driven to a house in an unidentified area, where they were searched and robbed of cash.
They were held captive for about an a hour, after which their faces were covered and they were driven to an undisclosed location and let go.
