Village of Hope outreach feeds hungry school children on their way home

The outreach event was supported by SAPS and CPF.

Brakpan SAPS sector managers and CPF members formed part of an outreach on May 13, led by the NPO Village of Hope.

The NPO receives foodstuffs sponsored by Pick ‘n Pay in Mall@Carnival, and distributes it among underprivileged communities.

During the outreach, they distributed the food at the Old Location informal settlement (Mgongo) to children coming home from school.

Tumie Masolane, the organisation’s leader, said their goal is to give hope to children coming back from school hungry and tired, and parents frustrated because there is nothing to eat at home.

Constable Audrey Buthelezi, Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer, said the SAPS engage with communities and stakeholders in such programmes to strengthen relations and improve communication with the community.

She further said it is important for the SAPS to get involved in community outreaches – to ensure safety and security, bring people closer to the SAPS and encourage them, restoring their trust in SAPS.

“The children and parents appreciated the initiative. Village of Hope thanked the SAPS and CPF for always supporting the initiative,” said Buthelezi.
