Brakpan weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from May 23 to 25.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A trailer was stolen from an address along Bekker Street in Dalview.
• A truck driver and his passenger were held captive for hours after being hijacked at the corner of Airport Drive and Rangeview Road in Dalpark.
A lone gunman climbed into the white Hino truck at around 09:30 while the vehicle was stationary at the traffic lights.
The hijacker pointed the gun at the victims and instructed the driver to continue driving. He then gave directions to the driver, and blindfolded the passenger.
They drove to a secluded bushy area where they were met by five men in an unidentified white car. The victims were dragged out of the truck and forced inside the car.
They were taken to an unknown area and kept there for two to three hours. Both were searched and robbed of their cellphones.

The victims were then driven to a different location where they were told to lie on the ground and their hands were tied.
The hijackers left them there, and the pair managed to untie themselves. The truck and its cargo is valued at over R300 000.
Saturday – A TV, a kettle and children’s clothing were stolen during a break-in at a home along Walkden Street in Sherwood Gardens.
Sunday – A Leachville family were robbed in their Seekoei Street home by two armed intruders. The front door and security gate to the home were unlocked and the robbers casually walked into the house at around 18:30.
Once inside, they threatened the family at gunpoint and forced them into a room. One of the victim’s hands were tied with shoelaces. The robbers searched the house and fled with four cellphones and a laptop.
• TVs, cables and other valuables were stolen during a robbery at a Prince George Avenue business. A group of robbers gained access to the building at around 20:00.
A security guard and people who live on the premises were rounded up and threatened with a gun. The victims were tied up and robbed of their cellphones. They were also later forced to help the robbers load the stolen goods into the robbers’ cars.
