Brakpan’s Marnitz Otten dominates on the track with double podium performances

The nine-year-old showed grit and determination at the SA Short Circuit Series Round 3 in Vereeniging.

After a phenomenal day of racing, Brakpan’s Marnitz Otten is currently first in the SM50 and second in the SM65 championships.

The nine-year old competed in Round 3 of the SA Short Circuit Series on May 31 in Vereeniging. It was a freezing start to the day with the SM65 class qualifying taking place first early in the morning.

The track was slippery due to the low temperature so the track times were slightly slower. Marnitz put his head down and managed to qualify in pole position.

During the SM50 class qualifying, Marnitz fell, but jumped back onto the bike and sped off. He took another tumble, but got back up again, and finished the qualifying in first place.

Marnitz Otten clinched first place in the SM50 and second overall in the SM65 championships after a day of thrilling heats and remarkable comebacks.

Heat 1 in the SM65 class got underway and Marnitz had a brilliant start and sped off. Leading the race all the way, Marnitz took the checked flag.

During the second heat, Marnitz started well, but lost the lead in the third lap but kept on fighting, closely finishing in second place.

Heat 3 saw some awesome racing, as early on during the first lap, Marnitz passed his team mate. He worked hard to lead the pack and with a very close finish, he took first overall for the day. In the SM50 race, Marnitz managed to get a clean sweep for the day and finished all three heats in first place.

“Marnitz rode like a real champion. He has been practicing every weekend. Marnitz is putting in the work and time, and the results speaks for itself,” said his mom Izele.
