Brakpan SAPS and CPF hold mass patrol to fight crime

SAPS, CPF, and security companies were involved in the mass event to combat and prevent crime.

On May 31 at 20:00 and again on June 1 at 02:00, Brakpan SAPS participated in a mass patrol organised by the Brakpan CPF.
The operation, conducted within the Brakpan precinct, aimed to prevent any form of lawlessness.

“The ice-cold weather was no distraction for SAPS members, CPF patrollers and private security companies,” said Constable Audrey Buthelezi, SAPS Sector 1 manager and corporate communications officer.

Brakpan CPF chairperson Tinus Jordaan and SAPS Brakpan Vispol commander Colonel Robert Makopo led the team.

Challenging areas were given priority, namely Brakpan North, Anzac, and the CBD, which are hotspots for house burglaries and theft. No criminal activity was reported for the night.

People and motor vehicles were stopped and searched, and loitering, public drinking, and public indecency were addressed, as they are strictly prohibited.

“The intensified visibility of law enforcement agencies is evidence that unity through collaboration is an effective crime prevention strategy,” said Buthelezi.

A light-duty truck that was hijacked in Actonville, with the driver also kidnapped, was recovered in Leachville Ext 3, Brakpan, by a trucking company and the Gauteng traffic wardens.

The truck was loaded with bags of mine sand.

The driver stated that he jumped out of the vehicle while it was in motion. Brakpan SAPS members who were part of the patrol discovered the victim and assisted him.

The mine sand was loaded onto the truck, which was then taken to the pound.

“Brakpan SAPS is calling on community members to initiate street patrols and neighbourhood watches to prevent criminality, especially now that winter has started,” said Buthelezi.

“Criminals take advantage of the cold weather.”

Collaborative mass patrols will occur regularly, and the SAPS encourages community members to stand united and assist in the fight against crime.

Brakpan SAPS station commander Brigadier Johanna Ngoma extended her thanks to law enforcement personnel and said that the safety of citizens will always be a priority.
