Brakpan teen killed in crash involving child driver

The community will gather for a vigil this afternoon in memory of the victim.

A 14-year-old Brakpan teenager was killed yesterday (Saturday) after being struck by a car allegedly driven by a 12-year-old.

According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, officers from the EMPD Accident Bureau were summoned to an accident at the corner of Northdene Avenue and Madeley Street at about 13:45.

“The officers found the lifeless body of a 14-year-old pedestrian, who was declared deceased on scene by paramedics,” said Dlamini.

“Also on the scene, the officers found a Mazda that allegedly bumped the pedestrian driven by a 12-year-old driver.

“The driver was handed in, accompanied by his guardian, to the Brakpan SAPS.

“It is alleged that the driver used the motor vehicle and disobeyed a stop sign and collided into the pedestrian.”

Dlamini added that the minor is expected to appear before the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court soon.

The victim has been identified as Malcolm Booysen, a learner at Laerskool Brakpan-Oos.

A vigil will be held for him today (Sunday) at 13:00 at 39 Northdene Avenue.
