A heartbreaking scene unfolded this afternoon (Sunday) as friends and family gathered to honour 14-year-old Malcolm Booysen, who tragically died yesterday after being struck by a vehicle driven by a 12-year-old.

A sombre atmosphere prevailed this afternoon (Sunday) at the place where 14-year-old Malcolm Booysen died yesterday after being struck by a vehicle driven by a 12-year-old child.

Friends, family, and well-wishers wrote messages on a large wooden cross and laid down flowers.

Malcolm’s grieving parents Helen-Ann and Quinton Booysen were comforted by people at the scene.

Helen cried inconsolably before a scripture reading and prayer were held.

Malcolm’s brothers Austin (18), Jason (11) and Jacques (9) took turns writing messages on the wooden cross for their brother.

His grandfather André Booysen (66) told the Brakpan Herald the family is still in shock and trying to make sense of the tragic event that claimed Malcolm’s life.
