Brakpan police officers go the distance at Comrades Marathon

Trio crosses the finish line with impressive times, flying the SAPS flag high at the world’s oldest and biggest ultra-marathon.

Brakpan SAPS station commander Brigadier Johanna Ngoma has congratulated the three local SAPS members who participated in the Comrades Marathon on Sunday.

The 89.98km Ultimate Human Race started in Pietermaritzburg and ended outside Durban’s People’s Park. The trio from the Brakpan Police Station were among 437 SAPS members from various provinces who participated in the 98th edition of the marathon.

Detective Sergeant Brian Mngadi of the crime office completed his fifth Comrades in 10:48:50. Detective Sergeant Thabiso Marakalala, from the FCS Unit, completed his maiden Comrades in 09:59:06 with an average pace of 06:40, putting him in position 6 719 overall.

Sergeant Nape Motloung from the Detectives Unit finished his first Comrades Marathon in 10:00:07 with an average pace of 06:41, placing him 6 810 overall.

Ngoma thanked the runners for representing the SAPS and holding the police flag high. She further encouraged other SAPS members to be fit, not only for physical development, but for helping with positive mental health.
