Local police recruitment drive draws candidates from across Gauteng

Local law enforcement and volunteers teamed up to assist over 100 candidates with applications.

Young applicants from Brakpan and beyond were guided through the SAPS application process during a police recruitment drive on Friday.

The drive, which took place in the open field opposite the Sherwood Shopping Centre in Brakpan North, was headed by Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer Constble Audrey Buthelezi and social crime prevention coordinator Sergeant Faith Ntuli.

Sector 1 CPF patrollers, Secure Tech Security, and a Siyabangena patroller also assisted.

Tumelo Buthelezi and Brianna Mupaya, youth members from NPO Uyasiphumelelisa, helped overcome tech barriers with the use of smartphones to ensure candidates successfully submitted their online applications.

“The initiative was aimed at assisting the youth from different communities to apply for entry level police trainee vacancies 2025/2026 successfully,” said Buthelezi.

“Candidates came as far as Etwatwa, Daveyton, Tsakane, Kwa-Thema, Johannesburg Central, and our locals in Brakpan.

“Those who had not yet applied were assisted with the correct website, creating a profile, completing the application, and finally submitting. The ones who had already created a profile, but met challenges on the website, were also assisted.

The day was, however, not without its own challenges, and unstable networks and an overloaded website created some hiccups.

“Brianna and Tumelo would keep logging on and off the website until they got it right,” said Buthelezi, who also kept encouraging the candidates to not lose hope.

More than 100 candidates were assisted during the drive. Pamphlets explaining the recruitment process and application guide were also handed out.

This drive follows one held on July 8 at Mall@Carnival aimed at assisting individuals looking to pursue a career in law enforcement. During this drive, 115 candidates were assisted.
