Ekurhuleni valuation roll objections to be handled by September
Each objection is formally logged, reviewed and assessed by the municipal valuer.
The City of Ekurhuleni received approximately 17 000 objections from ratepayers following the release of the fifth general valuation roll for the period July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2029.
The city is in the process of evaluating the objections. Due to the volume of the objections received that are being handled by the municipal valuer, the objection outcomes are anticipated to be finalised by the end of September.
Each objection is formally logged and reviewed by the municipal valuer who considers all concerns raised and assesses the supporting documentation provided by property owners.
After careful evaluation, a resolution is reached, and the objection outcome is issued. Where required, if a further appeal is lodged, the matter may proceed to the Valuation Appeal Board for an additional review.
While an objection is being processed, ratepayers should continue to pay their municipal account. If the billed rates are believed to be excessively high due to a possible error, the ratepayer may make partial payments.
The ratepayer must notify the billing department to formally flag their account; this helps prevent the account from being subjected to debt collection.
Once an objection is finalised, the billing department will adjust the account to reflect the correct rates according to the outcome. For assistance and further inquiries, residents are encouraged to visit their nearest customer care centres.
