Local kickboxers to represent SA after dominating nationals

Two of the three will compete at the world championship in October in England.

Three talented kickboxers from Wolfpack Kickboxing in Brakpan Central recently competed at the Martial Arts South Africa (MASA) Nationals and the Kickboxing Organisation South Africa (KOSA) SA Championships, delivering outstanding results.

Lourie Booyse, a Grade Six learner at Sonneveld Akademie, earned a silver medal at MASA in the 12-years 45 to 50kg division and claimed gold at KOSA in the 50kg division.

Jayden Bezuidenhout secured gold in the combat league points category at both MASA and KOSA, and added silver medals in the combat league continuous section at both events.

He competed in the 17 to 18 years, 85 to 90kg division at MASA and in the 90kg division at KOSA.

Zander van Staden took home gold in the continuous division at both events and silver in the points division. He competed in the 75 to 80kg division at MASA and the 80kg division at KOSA.

All three fighters qualified for the World Kickboxing Association (WKA) Karate and Kickboxing Championships, which will take place in Sheffield, England in October. However, only Zander and Jayden will be competing internationally this year.

Zander, who has been training for three years and competing for two, said his favourite part of the sport is meeting friends and showcasing his skills.

“With hard work, you can do anything. Don’t give up hope,” he said.

Lourie said he enjoys learning new things and appreciates being able to defend himself.

“It’s hard, but at the end of the day, it’s really good for you,” he shared.

Jayden loves the thrill of competition and the satisfaction of seeing his dedication pay off.

“Just get started. It’s a fun sport, and even if you don’t enjoy it, that’s okay too. Just try it. It’s a good skill to have,” he added.
