Village of Hope expands its mission, one meal at a time
From soup and sweet treats to smiles and support, Village of Hope is serving both meals and hope in local informal settlements.
Village of Hope, a Brakpan-based non-profit organisation, continues to expand its impact in local communities by feeding more hungry tummies and spreading hope.
The organisation now hosts regular feeding outreach programmes in informal settlements throughout Brakpan. With support from Pick n Pay Springs Mall, under the management of Percy Masondo, Village of Hope served children in Plastic City a warm and hearty meal on July 7.
The little ones enjoyed bread rolls, juice, and a sweet treat. Thanks to the community response to the increasing need in this settlement, the NPO’s dream of feeding the children at Plastic City every week has come true.
“Our wish has been granted, and we are grateful,” said NPO founder Tumie Masolane, who was assisted on the day by Fedile Sekonyela and Mumcy Khumalo.
The NPO then visited the Mgongo informal settlement on July 8, to continue its mission. Masolane and Sekonyela prepared and served a meal of bread rolls, soup, and sweet treats for dessert.
They were joined by other community stakeholders, including the Mgongo CPF, a representative from the CoE mayor’s office, and the Bongani Hlela Podcast Team, who documented the day’s events.

“All thanks to Pick n Pay Mall@Carnival for sponsoring us with this fresh meal. We are grateful,” said Masolane.
Returning to Mgongo on July 15, Village of Hope once again fed the children of the settlement. Masolane, supported by Sekonyela and the Mgongo CPF, served bread rolls, soup, and a local favourite among the children – fat cakes.
“We were not aware that these little souls love fat cakes so much. They were very happy, and their smiles matter to us,” said Masolane.
After feeding the children, the team visited struggling families in the area and delivered bread rolls to them.
“We are happy to see the difference that we are bringing to people’s lives,” said Masolane.
The NPO is still looking for corporate and individual partners to help continue this important work. Donations of all kinds are welcome.
