Weekend crime round-up: Motorbike and vehicles stolen, robberies reported

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan SAPS from July 25 to 27.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A maroon Big Boy motorbike was stolen from an address along Des Fountain Street in Minnebron.
• A white Ford Ranger was stolen from Craigholm Street in Dalview.

• A car parked at the corner of Voortrekker Road and Park Street was tampered with, and the left side mirror cover had been stolen.

• An inverter was stolen during a break-in at a business along Stoffberg Avenue.

• A suspect was arrested following the robbery of a woman at the corner of Station Road and Queen Avenue at about 12:30.

The victim was walking home when she was confronted by a man armed with a screwdriver. When he demanded her cellphone, the victim refused to hand it over, and the man pushed her to the ground and fled with her phone.

The victim approached a passing motorist for assistance, who then contacted the CPF. The victim was later informed that a suspect had been apprehended nearby.

She went to the scene, and the police arrived. The man was arrested and detained at the Brakpan Police Station, and the cellphone was returned to the victim.

Saturday – A Leachville resident was robbed at gunpoint in the driveway of his New Kleinfontein Road home at around 20:30.

The victim was sitting in his car, busy on his cellphone, when two men approached the vehicle. One went to the passenger side and the other to the driver’s side.

The man at the driver’s side opened the car door and pointed a gun at the victim. He grabbed the cellphone from the victim’s hands, and also tried to take the vehicle’s radio without success.

The pair then ran off. An armed robbery docket was opened.

Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.
