Attempted murder case opened after Dalview gunfight
After an exchange of shots, the gunman was wounded and arrested.
Gunshots erupted in Dalview on the afternoon of August 24 during a confrontation between a gunman and a private security officer.
According to police information, the officer was on duty and performing his routine tasks when he received a radio call at around 15:50 reporting a man visibly carrying a gun along Voortrekker Road in Dalview.
The officer proceeded to the scene and, upon arrival, identified a suspect matching the given description. The man was walking in the direction of End Street.
The officer called out to the man to stop, but upon seeing the officer, the man began moving backward and opened fire.
The officer returned fire as the man fled, and the exchange of gunfire continued. During the pursuit, the man dropped his firearm and fled by jumping over a wall into a nearby veld.
He was eventually apprehended and placed under arrest. He sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and arm, and was transported to the Far East Rand Hospital for medical treatment.
The officer was unharmed in the incident. An attempted murder case is under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
